Why I Decided To Write My First Book

Back in 2005 when I started out in Real Estate I’ll never forget the first time I walked into the office and sat down with the broker.  I was 23 years old, full of energy, and ready to conquer the real estate world. The only problem was, I had no idea what to do next. When I went in to talk to my broker the first time he looked at me like it was the first time anyone had ever asked him the question, “What do I do now?!”

Those next 5-6 weeks were painful.  I had no idea how to get clients, no idea what to say even if I did get a client, and no idea how to help anyone that was crazy enough to actually work with me.  All I had was an audio CD that one of the instructors in real estate school had made that he gave to all of the students in the live sessions of the licensing course. I dove in!

A few weeks later I got the REALTOR magazine in the mail and in the back I found a classified ad for a real estate program from a guy out in Chicago, I dove in! I even managed to sell 5-6 homes my first 6 months as an agent but I was broke, I was tired, and I realized I had no blueprint or map on how to actually attract, acquire, and service a client. While it is much easier in 2018 then it was in 2005 when I started, I still wanted to write this book and develop my real estate course so that anyone could start today, no matter where he or she is in the business, and never have to deal with what I did.  Anyone could start today and within 6 months they should be making no less than 100k in that time frame!

This book is kind of my journey, where I started, my why when I was first starting out.  (It was a good one by the way! I had $120,000 debt and no way to pay it back otherwise) This book helps you see real-life examples of how to contribute to others so that they will want to do business with you.  How you can develop real loving relationships with great clients and love going to work for them every single day!

I’ll never forget the first time I got belittled by a client.  I felt terrible about myself. I was trying my best, they were mad at the market but not me, but still, I felt like a failure.  I realized later that it wasn’t about me and because I had set up a great business, one worth owning, I knew that I would never have to deal with a verbal beat down like that again.

Fast forward a few years later and I was at a closing with a client and her mom had decided to show up for the first time since we had started this entire process. This was a woman whom you could tell by the 5-carat ring on her finger and the attitude that came with it that she was used to getting what she wanted.  In this particular case, she was trying to bully me at the closing to cut part of my commission to help with some of the closing costs of her daughter. There was no reason I should, I knew I had done a great job and so did the daughter. I had even gone door to door and found a seller because my buyer only wanted to live in this one townhouse subdivision.  I had negotiated us a private seller that was $15,000 below the comparable units, everyone was so happy. Til the mom showed up.

After sitting there for about 30 minutes the mom finally got in my face and yelled, “Either you cut your commission or you are going to lose the whole thing cause we aren’t signing! Also, you will never work with anyone in our family again!” I calmly answered her, “Ma'am, thankfully in my business I have enough clients and friends that really love me and I don’t have to work with people like you.  I don’t give a damn if you sign or not cause I’ll resell this in 25 minutes the second you cancel. But I’d rather lose an entire commission than pay even $1 to someone like you.”

She signed.  The daughter called me the next day to apologize and over the years she has referred me a number of her family and friends who have all been great to work with.  The point of this story is that I had set my business up in a way that I didn’t have to let people belittle me ever again. Had I not done a good job that would have been one thing, but I had done a great job.

I know this business can be tough.  People don’t appreciate great real estate agents until they have a really crappy one.  This book will teach you exactly what you need to do to create these amazing relationships.  I wish I had access to this book when I started, I wish I knew the right way to grow my network and to have influence with those around me.  As you read through the book hopefully you will see how much fun my own adventure has been being able to meet amazing people, throw incredible events, and give back in amazing ways.

Below is the link to the book, please let me know your feedback and I would love to hear your success stories and see photos of your journey as your network your way to an extraordinary life through real estate and you get to live life on your terms!
